EXPLORE THE ART OF YOU

  • TAOU The Art OUs - Inspired by our teacher Josie Schweitzer and Katonah Yoga®, this class incorporates kundalini-inspired breath work, questions/journaling, movement, metaphors and meditation to bring the art of us into focus. This class sets up facing each-other to foster community & further explore TheArtOfUs.

An exploration of the self by the self, using various tools such as Katonah Yoga® Inspired yoga, Daoism, Kundalini, Hatha, Art, meditation, and more.

    * Bring Journal or something to write in !

  • Iyengar yoga encourages the use of props to assist students within an asana without putting them at risk of injury. Effective alignment can help to achieve balance between body, mind and breath. The philosophy of yoga and its positive effect on our daily lives is incorporated into each class.

  • Yin and Yang* are the Taoist concepts describing the two relative qualities in everything. Starting off with Yin in a practice of cultivating stillness & acceptance. Holding poses passively for 5-6 minutes, with a focus on the connective tissues, creating more space in the body and mind over time. In contrast, the last half of class is yang, a more active flow focusing on strength, stamina, and flexibility within the space that was created.

In this practice, it will be a challenge to notice how everything, even seemingly opposite ones, support each other, regulate each other, and are needed to work together to become whole. (6-months experience recommended yet open to all.)

*Yang Yoga refers to all dynamic styles of yoga such as Hatha/Vinyasa, Katonah® Inspired Yoga, Iyengar, Kundalini, Power, & more!

  • MYO YANG :

This class is a combination of myo fascial release techniques and flow based yoga. 30 min will be a heat building flow focused on stretching and warming our connective tissue. The myo portion moves into guided self-massage and myofascial release via guided therapy-ball work.

    MYO YIN:

This class is a combination of myofascial release techniques with some yin and restorative stretches and poses. The main focus is on self massage and myofascial release via guided therapy-ball work will help stretch and release fascial tissue, improving mobility and overall health.

Fascia is a strong, connective tissue that covers and encapsulates every part of the body. In a healthy state, fascia is pliable and hydrated, allowing it to glide and stretch freely. However, through poor posture, surgery, overuse, or injury, the fascia becomes hardened and tough, causing dysfunction and pain.

We have and use a variety of tools including:  tennis balls (for a softer approach) , lacrosse balls, foam rollers and more.

  • Yang Yoga refers to all dynamic styles of yoga such as: Hatha/Vinyasa, Katonah® Inspired Yoga, Iyengar, Kundalini, Power, & more! These types of yoga can build internal heat which activate the Yang in YOU! Yang will be a practice creating heat in the body with a steady pace to keep your practice fluid and creative, so you can have time to explore where you are. Similar to vinyasa, yang will be focused on flowing with rhythm and repetition incorporating breath. (Recommended for beginners & All Levels)

    _____

Our Teachers are encouraged to introduce their individual styles and techniques to the class, so every class is unique!

  • Yin is the feminine within all of us, the more internal, passive, and cooling side of things. It teaches us to find comfort and healing overtime, within the stillness of the home of our body.
